He saith to them: Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and you shall find. They cast therefore; and now they were not able to draw it, for the multitude of fishes. John 21:6 Douay Rheims
I was listening to someone reflect on this verse and I realized something….. Peter had been fishing all night and caught nothing. When Jesus came along, he told him to throw his nets over. When I think of this verse, it reminds me of a period in my life in which everything in my life seemed perfect to me- the city I lived in, the college I was attending, my job and great friends. I had it all figured out, I was in the right place at the right time. Everything was PERFECT, except for one solid fact I could not ignore: I was not bearing any fruit. I had no redeeming social purpose to speak of, no outreach avenue, no ministry to reach the lost and impoverished with the saving message of Jesus Christ. Okay, if I was living the ‘ideal’ so called, how come I was not catching any fish? The day finally came when the Lord told me to pack and come to where I live now. “But Lord,” I said, “the fish are HERE. Better colleges are here, there are next to no job opportunities there, it is a retirement resort and the neighborhoods are poor to midland. ” Needless to say, you know Who won. I have to admit after throwing my net, I have a constant hard time managing the ‘haul.’ For real. I have more friends than I can count, I graduated from a fine school with a degree in my favorite subject, a great job, I have published works in local and national publications, have a great blog community, good health, a great church and the most important- spreading the Gospel of Life at Change Point Pregnancy and Parenting Center where parents are empowered, and 2065 children plus have been saved from abortion.
