Okay—it is after Valentine’s day, but before the Lenten season begins March 5- a season of prayer, fasting and alms-giving, I’d like to unpack a gift for you.
Some years ago, I visited a church for the deaf and the Pastor gave this sermon in American Sign Language, my foreign language in college. It’s one of the most beautiful messages I have ever seen…. I’m sure Pastor D. would not mind me passing it on.
The contents of the basket:A prayer for Lent Father, our source of life, I reach out with joy to grasp Your hand; let me walk more readily in Your ways. Guide me in Your gentle mercy, for left to myself I cannot do Your Will.
Father of love, source of all blessings, help me to pass from my old life of sin to the newlife of grace. Prepare me for the glory of Your Kingdom. I ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever.
