“Although I have much to write to you,I do not intend to use paper and ink. instead, I hope to visit you and to speak face to face, so that our joy may be complete.” 2 John 12, NAB
El Greco, “Saints Peter and Paul” (1605-1608)
“But if I should be delayed, you should know how to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth.” 1 Timothy 3:15, NAB
“So then, while we have the opportunity, let us do good to all, but especially to those who belong to the family of the faith.” Galatians 6:10, NAB
Just sayin: It’s a bit mysterious that in the Holy Bible, purportedly the most read book in the world, Paul appears to uphold live fellowship over his written letters to the churches. It’s like he is saying, “yes, Jesus’ message needs to be written, but I want to tell you in person- another human made in the image of God and being saved by the blood of His Cross- how living “the way” has changed me into one who considers suffering an honor in order to witness His wonderful love for the world. Then I want to hear how the good news of our Lord’s Resurrection is changing your life!”
Wow-It’s just mysterious and awe-inspiring that Jesus trusts fallible human beings to preserve His Truth.
For me, Paul’s “joy is complete” echos the warmth in Psalms 133:1 : “How good it is, how pleasant, where the people dwell as one! (NAB) Amen!
